Cooperation with Online Learning Teams

Posted on January 3 2013

What is it like to work with an online learning team? I cannot speak for all teams, however I can tell you about my experience working with Acadsoc.com and how it has shaped my opinions of online learning.

Before joining the Acadsoc team, I knew very little about online learning, only what my friends who have used the service had shared with me. However this quickly changed upon joining the team. Every effort was made to make me feel welcome, and I was given the opportunity to talk to numerous people in order to be fully informed of the background of the company.

One thing that has surprised me when working with an online learning team is the vast numbers of people who are working on the service behind the scenes. For some unknown reason, in my head I had imagined that one or two people would run the online learning centre and then the tutors and students would use that. However this really is not the case! I naively did not appreciate that someone has to be developing the website, someone checking on the progress of the tutors, another person monitoring student progress, not forgetting a researcher ensuring that the most up to date technology and information is always being used. I suppose what this amounts to, is that I did not realise how much support there really is available within the teams for whoever needs it, whether you are part of the team, a tutor or a student, there is always someone there to help you.

Working within an online distance learning team can also really develop one’s sense of culture. Before I joined Acadsoc, even though I was in University, part of me still didn’t see beyond my own little bubble. When working with an online learning team you get to work with such a variety of people, from all walks of life, that I otherwise would not have come into contact with. I really am grateful for the opportunities which I have been presented with since joining the Acadsoc team.
